PAL & LAA General Meeting
Monday, October 14 at 7:30
This Meeting will be Hosted in Person by PAL
at the Pleasanton Cultural Arts Building
4477 Black Ave., Pleasanton
Guest Artist: Jeannie Vodden
Portraits in Primary Colors:
Jeannie Vodden's interest in the variety of textures and patterns found in both nature and in man-made objects is the starting point for her portraits and floral/still lifes. She adds natural light, sometimes a dash of fantasy, and pulls it all together with a limited palette.
Her preference for the complex play of form and light is balanced by her use of a very simple palette. Starting with only three colors, she glazes many transparent layers. each layer modifies the last, adding a multi-leveled glow. Though the process takes some patience, the visual effects are revealed in an unusual feeling of depth of color, perfectly suited to transparent watercolor.
Jeannie is a popular instructor of watercolor. For over 25 years she has taught workshops throughout California and in Wyoming, Nevada and Washington State and recently in Georgia. She enjoys demonstrating her watercolor techniques to art and community organizations and finds the challenge of judging art competitions rewarding and inspiring.
Jeannie will talk about her process of using a limited palette in portraits, sharing her process of layering wet on dry mat paper to develop volume, detail and translucence. She uses winsor & newton paints: winsor yellow, permanent rose and winsor blue green shade, all staining transparent colors.
