Spirits of Pleasanton’s Past Come Alive
At Museum on Main’s Annual Ghost Walk
At Museum on Main’s Annual Ghost Walk
In October, you might catch a glimpse of ghosts from Pleasanton’s past pass you by on Main Street. Join the Museum on Main for a family-friendly Ghost Walk and learn more about the history behind the ghost stories in Pleasanton. The Ghost Walk is a two-hour guided tour of Pleasanton’s most haunted sites along Main Street in the downtown area.
This family-friendly tour, held for over sixteen years, is a popular event during the Halloween season. This year the museum is offering their usual four nights of in-person tours. Director of Education Peter Wallis notes, “The Ghost Walk at Museum on Main is a Halloween tradition in Pleasanton and is a fun way to explore Pleasanton’s history through its ghosts. This walk brings stories and experiences collected and documented from locals over the years. It is a great way to experience a unique tour that integrates history into an event that is sure to get you into the Halloween Spirit.”
The in-person tours will be held on October 10 and October 11, October 17 and October 18. Tours begin at the museum and leave every thirty minutes from 6:00pm to 8:00pm. Groups are led by a team of ghost hosts to visit up to nine haunted locations around downtown. Each ghost host will carry a K2 Electromagnetic Field Meter that is an easy-to-use tool for detecting spikes in the electromagnetic field (EMF). Some people believe these spikes could detect activity or communication from the other side.
At each haunted location, groups are met by actors playing the roles of the various ghosts around town, bringing their stories and Pleasanton history to life. This year the museum is again partnering with City of Pleasanton’s Creatures of Impulse Teen Improv group to provide actors for the in-person tours. “The improv students have been a wonderful addition to Ghost Walk. They bring so much energy to the program, and we can’t wait to share this year’s talent with participants,” said Rachel Brickell from Museum on Main.
Ghost Walk tours take place rain or shine - so dress appropriately. Costumes are highly encouraged! For in-person tours, most of the tour’s stops are outside. In a few locations, groups may be able to go inside the haunted buildings. There may be two stops that require the use of stairs to access the ghosts. Ghost Walk tickets sell out every year, so the museum encourages those who want to participate in-person to purchase their tickets early.
