2.2 for 22 Challenge for Veterans
October 1-20 Virtual Challenge, October 21 at Las Positas College
The 8th annual 2.2 for 22 events will be held virtually for the first 20 days of the event beginning on October 1, 2023, followed by an in-person component held at Las Positas College Track and Field on October 21, 2023.
The primary goal of the 2.2 for 22 event is to raise awareness about the distressing fact that 22 veterans succumb to suicide each day. While the event initially focused on engaging the Las Positas College community and the local area, it became evident last year that the message resonated well beyond these boundaries. Participants from various parts of the United States and even services members stationed as far away as Afghanistan took part in the event. Notable sponsors for the event included the Safeway Foundation.
Although the official kickoff for the 2.2 for 22 events will be on October 1, 2023, individuals can register and make donations. Upon registration, participants will receive a 2.2 for 22 T-shirt and a commemorative finisher medal. Event organizers strongly encourage participants to complete as many challenges as they can or even attempt all of them. Participants are also welcome to join or create teams to enjoy the event together. Both individual and team results will be displayed on a progress board accessible to anyone visiting the website, fostering a spirit of friendly competition. Participants are encouraged to share pictures of themselves taking on the challenges using the hashtag #CHALLENGE22FORVETS
The event format will be like last year’s, featuring 22 new challenges that test participants’ physical, social, and emotional capabilities.
