Pleasanton Young Professionals Monthly Meeting-4/17/14

In August 2012, the U.S Army selected Garrett Yee for promotion to Brigadier General and in December 2012, he assumed the role of Deputy Commander for Mobilization for the Military Surface Deployment and Distribution Command at Scott Air Force Base, Illinois. During his 26-year U.S. Army career, he has held a variety of command and staff positions. Prior to his current assignment, he served as the Deputy Commander for the 335^th Signal Command (Theater) (Provisional) in Afghanistan from October 2011 to October 2012. While in Afghanistan, he provided senior leadership for all 335^th Signal Command operations, as well as provided oversight of communications commercialization projects throughout Southwest Asia.
In 2006, General Yee was deployed to Iraq as the Lead Theater Observation Detachment Officer with the Center for Army Lessons Learned (CALL), where he authored a CALL Handbook on Provincial Reconstruction Teams in Iraq.
General Yee has received numerous awards, including the Bronze Star Medal; the Meritorious Service Medal (six awards); the Army Commendation Medal (six awards); the Army Achievement Medal (four awards); the National Defense Service Medal (with one Bronze Star); the Iraq Campaign Medal; the Afghanistan Campaign Medal; the Global War on Terrorism Expeditionary Medal; the Global War on Terrorism Service Medal; the NATO Medal; the Overseas Service Ribbon; the Parachutist Badge; and the German Armed Forces Badge for Military Proficiency.
This May, General Yee will deploy to Southwest Asia, again, for another 12-month tour.  He will serve as the Commanding General of the 335^th Signal Command in Kuwait.
Garrett Yee also holds a locally elected office as a Trustee for the Ohlone Community College District.  Garrett was first elected to the board in 2002, then re-elected in 2006, while deployed overseas, and again in 2010.  He is involved in other local community organizations, to include serving as past president of Citizens for Better Community in Fremont.
In his civilian occupation, Garrett Yee is the Director of Outreach and Education for the Worker’s Compensation Insurance Rating Bureau in San Francisco. 
General Yee is a graduate of Santa Clara University, where he earned a bachelor’s degree in Combined Science. He also holds an MBA from Golden Gate University and a master’s degree in Strategic Studies from the Army War College.
General Yee is married to Maria Vera Yee and is the father of two sons and a daughter.
